Solar energy currently represents a small portion of Virginia’s renewable energy sources. There are many technologies that can be used to harness solar energy. The most common uses of solar are small scale solar hot water and heating systems and photovoltaic systems to generate electricity.
In Virginia, the Division of Energy oversees solar energy projects and manages the Solar Photovoltaic Manufacturing Incentive Grant Program.
